In early 2004, The Urban Institute completed a national study of volunteer management capacity among charities and congregations, undertaken for the Corporation for National and Community Service, in collaboration with The UPS Foundation and the USA Freedom Corps. On February 9, 2004, The Urban Institute held a briefing on the survey results in Washington, D.C. oduct of the Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy, a division of the Urban Institute that conducts much of the country’s leading research on the nonprofit sector’s role in our society and economy. The study, Volunteer Management in America's Charities and Congregations, is a product of the Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy, a division of the Urban Institute that conducts much of the country’s leading research on the nonprofit sector’s role in our society and economy The study is based on a representative sample of 1,753 charities, drawn from the more than 200,000 charities that filed an IRS 990 report in 2000.
